At Fields of Freedom, we go beyond rescue—we are committed to transforming lives. We rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome abandoned, abused, and neglected dogs, providing them with the care, love, and second chances they deserve. But our mission doesn’t stop there.
We believe that the way animals are treated is often part of a larger cycle—one that requires empathy, education, and systemic change. That’s why we reserve judgment while telling each dog’s story, using their experiences to inspire awareness, shift mindsets, and advocate for responsible pet guardianship.
Through community outreach, education, and partnerships, we work to build a world where adoption is the first choice, where every dog has a safe home, and where animals are recognized for the profound role they play in our lives. At our core, Fields of Freedom is about more than saving dogs—it’s about changing hearts, fostering respect, and ensuring every animal gets the love and dignity they deserve.
These adorable pups are ready to fill your home with love, laughter, and tail wags!
Each one of our adoptable dogs is waiting for their perfect match—could that be you?
For as long as I can remember, animals have been my refuge. As a child, I found comfort in their presence, drawn to their unconditional love and quiet understanding. I’ll never forget the day I first learned that dogs were euthanized in shelters—it shattered me. That heartbreak turned into a deep knowing: I had to do something to change that reality.
Years later, I met Larry. I was 22, new to Austin, Texas, and in no position to adopt a dog. But there he was, sitting in a crate on South Congress with his brothers, part of an Austin Pets Alive! adoption event. I walked away that day, but I kept coming back. By the time I returned for the fifth time, Larry was the only one left. A volunteer told me, “You know you’re supposed to adopt this dog.” And she was right. Larry became my best friend, my anchor, and the quiet force behind everything I’ve built since.
In 2020, I moved back home to Danville, Kentucky, searching for land and space that could help me finally bring life to my dream – a dog rescue. When I learned that the barn on our farm had once been a refuge for foster cats, the idea of starting a dog rescue began to take root. Then one day, my mom called me from the café where she worked—there was a beagle in need of a foster.
Alex the beagle was the first dog in the Barn, but she wasn’t the last. What started with one dog turned into a few. Then a handful. Then a full-fledged rescue operation. My partner Casey and I built kennels, expanded our team, and bought the farm next door. We even joined forces with our co-founder Brittany in New York, who helps us find homes for these deserving dogs up north.
With every rescue story, our mission clarified and crystallized: Fields of Freedom isn’t just about saving dogs—it’s about changing minds.
Too many people still believe that shelter dogs are damaged and that they need to buy from breeders to find their “right” dog instead. But the truth is, every breed, every temperament, every perfect match can be found in a shelter or rescue. And, every year, dogs die simply because there isn’t space for them. That isn’t just heartbreaking—it’s unacceptable.
Fields of Freedom is here to change that.
We work to give dogs the respect, love, and second chances they deserve. All while helping people see that a dog is never just a dog. They are companions, healers, family. They change lives—just like Larry changed mine.
It’s no surprise that every great rescue story begins with one dog. For me, that dog was Mitchell. Molly posted about him on Instagram, marked him as urgent, and offered transport. That was the spark. We immediately got him on the next transport to NY, and within a week, he was adopted. The whole experience was a whirlwind, and once he was safe in his new home (and renamed Tibbs), all I could think was, “Let’s do this again.”
From that first rescue, I learned how to be a better foster, how to advocate for dogs in need. Over the year I spent working with Molly and getting to know the Barn, I realized we had something truly special. I knew then that we could do so much more.
Fields of Freedom began as a passion to help as many dogs as we could with what we had. Now, with the community and relationships we’ve built along the way, it’s safe to say that the dream is just beginning.
Thank you! Kyle, Kayla, Timothy & Eva
Beyond our founder’s personal connection to helping dogs in this area, Kentucky’s dogs need our help now more than ever. Kentucky consistently ranks among the top states for animal euthanasia rates, despite having a relatively small human population of approximately 4.5 million. In 2021, the state was ranked as the 10th worst in the nation for animal shelter deaths, and in 2024 Kentucky ranked in the bottom tier of states with the weakest animal protection laws. While some shelters have made significant progress in reducing euthanasia rates—for instance, Daviess County Animal Care & Control decreased their dog euthanasia rate from 54% in 2008 to 7% in 2023—the overall state statistics remain concerning. Fields of Freedom is working to change the fate of Kentucky’s canines.
At Fields of Freedom, we’re on a mission to make an impact beyond rescue. Your generous gift will ensure that we can achieve our mission of changing hearts, fostering respect, and ensuring every animal gets the love and dignity they deserve.
Mildred spent a long time waiting for the right home—she wasn’t the easiest to place since she preferred her own space. But now, she has a loving home and even a doggie roommate! She’s thriving, proving that the perfect match is always worth the wait.
From the moment I saw Melon's picture, I knew she was meant for me. The connection was instant, and despite my worries about my cats, they were all cuddled up within days. Now, I can't imagine life without her!
When I heard Murphy was looking for a home in NY, I knew I had to meet him. The moment I saw him at his foster’s house, I could tell he had been through a lot—but I also saw how much love he had to give. In that moment, all I wanted was to give him the chance he deserved. Now, Murph and I are inseparable—best friends for life!
